Tips for writing great Content

October 21, 2013 4 Comments

There are a lot of people now who dream of writing about things that will drum up the attention of others. There are only a few things that can make content great and also a few things that can make content bad. Learning how to differentiate the two will do a lot for your site. First thing that you have to do is to write as if you are in a conversation with someone. If you do this, those who are reading your article will feel like you are talking to them. It is likely that they will also be inspired so much that they will contact you and comment on your post. Do remember that depending on your target audience, you have to fit in your type of writing with their level of understanding. If you would like to target kids, then talking in simple sentences will do wonders.

Sometimes, it is okay to break grammar rules especially if you know that people will get what you mean better with that style of writing. But be careful, it may look “wrong” to others.

Second thing that you have to do is to understand that you are someone different from a person that you may have admired or have inspired you to make your own post. There are instances when people start writing because they have been inspired by someone else and their tendency is that they copy the style of that person because they feel that it will make them better. This should not be the case. Remember that you are your own person and embracing that fully will make you more acceptable to people.

Third thing to remember is that your content must be easy to understand. If people read your content but will not understand what you are trying to say, it is likely that they will just look elsewhere. Make sure that you are speaking from your heart and will be understood by people’s minds as well.

You may also want to look into your site’s current format. There are some readers who get turned off by layouts that bloggers have. If your web format is consistent and the pages are easy to navigate in, it is likely that your readers will like that more. Remember that a great content is crucial to become more successful in this type of industry.

Writing simple, straightforward and useful content will simply suffice! Most people complicate this and end up serving too complicated content. In my opinion grammar is very important; but it shouldn’t be a hindrance to your writing. At the same time cheap grammar errors can mislead, misinterpret and hijack user experience.

It is quite important that the content is easy to understand – that’s the whole purpose, right? Thanks for sharing Moja 🙂

Totally agreed, Jane! But then, English is my second language so I bet I make mistakes although I try very hard not to and get rid of all errors.

My best advice is to write every single day. I’ve been writing on my journal every day for almost a year and it’s amazing how much better I’ve gotten at this.
